The Five Hottest Dating Apps Right Now
Find the best communities and the best amount of matches with our comprehensive dating app reviews!
Online dating has completely revolutionized the way we interact with others and find a prospective partner to spend the rest of our lives with. Or, maybe skip that last bit, since hookups and one-night-stands have also grown in size over recent years. Whatever it is you're looking for, you can find it on most online dating services. But not all dating sites and apps are created equally. Some communities are vastly different, filled with people looking for certain things. Some apps are more comfortable to use than others.
We've gone through all the most popular apps and websites, as well as the smaller ones. Finally, we've decided to make a list of the best ones we've found. We've come across the old saying 'more prominent means better,' and it rings true for the most part. But there might be some smaller communities you may not have heard of yet. Let's get into it!
1. Tinder
Tinder is the classic dating app. One of the first on the scene when online dating started, and now it's evolved into a massive global community. It offers the easiest-to-use interface of an app, which began with their 'swipe-left' and 'swipe-right' to either like or pass on someone. By getting rid of a middleman, such as traditional dating services, it puts the matches in the hands of the person who wants to get matched.
One of our favorite features of Tinder is the interface. Every time you're given someone to match, you don't need to go and see their full profile, often filled with all sorts of filler content or outdated information. All you see are some pictures, their name, age, distance, and a short description of themselves that they have written. From there, that person will have probably put any important relative information, so you don't need to go into matching blindly. Of course, if something is unclear, you can always ask and try to match from there!
Since Tinder is such a popular app, no matter where you are, you probably won't have trouble finding anyone near you. Tinder automatically gives recommendations of people in your area. This helps you rest with peace of mind, knowing that you won't need to drive an hour to visit the person you like. Of course, you can always broaden the region it searches in, which also helps you find more matches!
2. Badoo
If Tinder was there for the online dating boom, you could say that Badoo pioneered it. Started in 2006, Badoo is another giant in the online dating industry. But, strangely enough, not many people seem to know it, or it doesn't come to their mind when they think about online dating.
Badoo similarly handles online dating to Tinder, following the swipe system, and finding people in your area. But it has many more profile fields than Tinder, letting you talk about anything, from books, movies, games, and much more!
Although this might seem like writing a resume, you only need to write it once, meaning that you can avoid asking or answering too many questions at that awkward beginning stage of any relationship. You can see if you're genuinely interested in that person (or find interests to talk about when getting to know each other.)
Badoo also isn't limited to just dating. There's a whole community dedicated to just finding friends, which makes it fantastic to meet all kinds of people. Find friends in town and find communities you never knew existed!
3. Happn
It's still on its way to reach technological maturity, but Happn seems to be changing online dating the same way Snapchat changed social media.
Instead of mindlessly browsing through profiles or getting poor candidates from a service, Happn revolves around your lifestyle. If you're looking for a relationship, you might be looking at prospects while getting your morning coffee, just scouting the room for someone without a ring on their hand. Happn is getting rid of that need to scan the room, and if you cross paths with someone on their app, you'll be notified.
If you're active and walking is your primary source of transport, then Happn might be the perfect choice for you. The community is rather small now, but it will never grow if people don't start signing themselves up! Who knows, you might get lucky and find someone soon!

4. Blendr
Again, a name not too common but has been around since Tinder. Boasting a community nearly as big as half a billion users, Blendr should never give you any trouble to find anyone to talk with!
Blendr is very similar in regards to its goals, to Badoo, a network listed above in number two. Both apps have tons of profile options, and both have large communities, both have the opportunity to find friends rather than dates or hookups. But we've decided to list it lower since it seems to mimic Badoo, in that sense.
We've given it the green light since the community is still absolutely massive, and you're bound to find someone, no matter where you are!
5. eHarmony
Ah, bringing it back home with the classic eHarmony. If you've been around for a while, then you may have heard of eHarmony years ago, since it has (and remains) one of the most popular dating services of all time.
The main difference between eHarmony and the sites listed above is that you don't do the matching here. You don't get to be in charge that much, but in some ways, that's good. eHarmony bases its matches off already-successful marriages and factors that led to those marriages being successful. This is great because sometimes, when matching yourself, you're not sure what you want.
eHarmony has been in the game forever, so that should be an indicator of how trustworthy their site is, and how successful they are at matching couples up.
Which site should you be using?
These short reviews should be enough to prime you about what each network is about, but if we delve into the types of communities, one may be better than the other.
For instance, Tinder is incredibly popular with youth between 18-30. Do you know what else is popular in that age range? The hookup culture. One night stands, clubbing, casual relationships all fall into this category. So, if that's what you're looking for or if it's something that interests you (or maybe you also fall into that age range,) then Tinder might be a much better solution for you.
Badoo is great to get a date, but it's also great for meeting new people who may go on to be friends. And since the community is much bigger, even if you're from a small town, you're likely to meet someone new.
On the other hand, Blendr might be better for areas with more significant populations, since it's not entirely as well known yet having a massive community. Giving both of them a shot is probably the best course of action, though.
Happn is fantastic if you're on the cutting edge of things and already live an active lifestyle. If you're up and roaming about, then get matched while you're at it! Your hipster score also goes up when you tell people, "Yeah, I used Happn before it was cool..."
Finally, arriving at eHarmony. If you're looking for a more serious relationship with people who are also looking for a serious relationship, then eHarmony is your site. Let their professional matchmakers find you, someone, to spend time with. Save that time spent finding matches yourself.
Conclusion
Your preferred app might not be on here, and that's alright. There are tons of apps for smaller niches, like Grindr and Bumble. This list is just our staff picks, which we have liked to use recently. If you think your favorite app deserves to get put on this list, tell us why! But just as all-around platforms for dating, these seem to be the best for an average user. If you're looking for something new and haven't tried these, then they may very well be worth a shot!
